From the view of a scientist, the closest one comes in contact with the source of life are the substances that are common in all living cells, from bacteria, fungi, plants or animals, the chemicals DNA-deoxyribonucleic acid and RNA - ribonucleic acid and the twenty amino acids and the plethora of proteins that they produce. Beyond that, life, especially sentient or conscious life is a mystery. From the Torahís viewpoint, life is a continuum from Hashem-G-d himself to the malachim-angels, to humanity, to the nefesh -spirit of the animal world. All are infused with G-dís chiyus-life force. Even the plant kingdom is infused with this special chiyus-life force. This lecture is devoted to explaining the creation of plant life on the third day, the significance of the creation of the seed producing herbs and the fruit producing trees, the process of photosynthesis, and the discovery and role of DNA.
