Hillel: A biography of one of the most influential personalities of all time.
Despite the difficult situation in which the Jews lived, under the Sadducees, Herodians, and Romans, G-d continually provided inspired Rabbinic leadership to guide and comfort His long suffering people. Among the stellar Rabbinic figures of the period no one has left a legacy that compares to that of Hillel. Originally from Babylon, Hillel first came up to Eretz Yisrael in order to study at the feet of the greatest teachers of his generation, Shmaya and Avtalion, becoming their most prominent disciple. Eventually Hillel was appointed to the prestigious position of Nasi, president of the Sanhedrin, through which he left his indelible mark on succeeding generations. Respected amongst all segments of society, including Herod, Hillelís love of humanity and dedication to the study and dissemination of Torah inspires us till this day. His story is the subject of this lecture.
